Chuck Babb – Principal Interim
Chuck Babb has been in the field of education (elementary and secondary) for the last twenty-five years. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Norfolk State University; Masters of Art from George Washington University (Human Resource Development) and his Education Specialist in the area of Administration, Supervision and Curriculum Development from the University of Colorado. Prior to his retirement in July 2017, Chuck served as principal of Florida Pitt Waller for ten years. Chuck also served as the principal of Philips Elementary in Park Hill for five years and as Assistant Principal at John F. Kennedy High School (Denver) for four years. He also taught at George Washington High School prior to joining the administrative staff at Kennedy. During his tenure as an administrator, (19) years, Chuck was an adjunct professor at the University of Phoenix working in the School of Education.
Prior to working in Denver Public Schools, Chuck had a successful 21year career as an Army officer, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Chuck is the proud father of two daughters’, both of whom are currently working in the field of education as a teacher and assistant principal. His pastime includes reading, travelling, research on his ancestral roots and spending as much time as possible with his grandsons, PJ and Dominic.

Gabriela Quiroga-Chavez – Principal-in-Training
I was born and grew up in Lima-Peru. I moved to Denver in 2003. I have been in the field of education for the last twenty-seven years. Undergraduate at Women University of Lima – Peru, where I received my Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education, Masters of Counseling for the Family from The Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), Masters in Educational Leadership from Regis University, and Masters in Instructional and Cultural Leadership. National Principals Academy, RELAY Graduate School of Education.
My passion has always been education. I work at Oakland Elementary since 2014, when Oakland re-open its doors after closing twice. It is truly a privilege to be part of this community where families, teachers and learners care for each other.
I have two children. I love to hike, cook, knit, make desserts, travel and read every day. I am bilingual, I speak English and Spanish, and I am learning French.
